What Amma said this Sunday----PRARABDHAM
People generally ask why I am suffering though I have not committed any sin knowingly during this birth.
Amma says that it is due to the sins committed during the earlier births that we suffer in this birth..When we start experiencing the results of actions of our previous births, we call it prarabdham. Such prarabdhams may give painful experience or pleasurable experience, painful experience for the sins committed(bad prarabdham) and pleasurable experience for the virtuous action done(good prarabdham)
The sufferings due to the bad prarabdham come under three categories.
1.Sufferings that can be easily removed such as diseases that can be cured completely by medicines etc.
2.Sufferings that can be removed but with great difficulty such as diseases that can be cured only by operations etc With dana dharma(charity),virtuous deeds and prayers to the Almighty these sufferings can also be removed
3The third category of sufferings( due to commission of grave sins) can not be removed by any of the above methods and the person has compulsorily to undergo the sufferings physically and mentally. It is like the disease that comes back again even after operation
We should not worry about the sins already committed in earlier births because what was done can not be undone now. What we have to do is to do good deeds now(Amma says we have got the present moment only to work)with fortitude and the result will definitely come presently or at a future date.as all actions invariably bring forth good or bad results. We should always work thinking of the Almighty and surrendering our work and its results to Him..This way the intensity of the sufferings can be mitigated and we can move forward in life. Only work(action) can save us, the selfish deeds bind us and the virtuous deeds dedicated to Almighty liberate us from the cycle of all sufferings
Amma here gives a small story.Once a traveller who was passing through a dense forest was attacked by robbers and they took all his monies and valuables and pushed him into a nearby well after binding him with a rope. The poor man, completely helpless, started crying aloud. from the depth of the well. .. After some time a passer- by heard the cry and he saw the man struggling in the well.He had a rope with him and immediately threw it into the well to enable the man to come out and thus saved him..This man was bound by a rope as a punishment and was saved by a rope. All our actions are like this rope, it can bind us or it can save us.
Life may present with difficulties and problems based on the past actions but we should face it with courage and fortitude and make the obstacles stepping stones for success and growth. For this discriminating intelligence based on spirituality is a must.
The above is only the essence of what Amma said and not a verbatim translation.See how Amma has indirectly answered the big question" why bad people prosper in life and good people undergo suffering"and suggested a way out .
